Web-Apps
mutt AND Gmail AND imaps - easy new setup
mutt meets the cloud
mutt is a pretty decent terminal based mail-client. It reliably runs on almost every platform, is RFC conform by default, lightweight, fast, extremely versatile and sweet as leet. In order to take advantage of all the kewl features of Gmail many people use heavyweight mail-clients like Mail.app (>300 MB), Outlook (infinite waste of space and time), or Thunderbird (the compromise).
In the past mutt was just a MUA, but since ~ 1.5 there's a useable smtp, imap and pop3 backend. In the following I hacked mutt to sync with multiple Gmail imap accounts to use the great filters and infinite space - from a terminal. Just mutt and Gmail.
The story of website password generators
That's a good PW generator. There're others.
A lesson learned
A lesson a co-worker, Bob, learned recently was: never trust. He's a security minded and competent administrator and specialized at security. However - something we have in common: lazy.
When Bob recently created a bunch of new passwords, he used a website, created an account, and what's very convenient: all the generated passwords are stored in a table. He added some usernames and used the website a while. There're password recovery functions. A real work-saver, however the setup is not local and does not belong to the company.
Drupal Application Security - hardening and performance
That's where the fun is...
Yes, that's an occupational habit you catch if you're working in the IT sec world. Where the battlefields of cyperwar are... - That sounds too dramatic, doesn't it?
Well in any case I just like tinkering with "security" stuff. So here it is: my actual project's "security" setup - that will get extended on demand.
Just mess around with it and have fun if you want. - All this stuff is not half as effective as it should be.
I just see a constructive effort in listing the actual measurements to inspire people. Maybe something kewl is missing? Drupal is an open project with ~4000 free different enhancements. The 4001th wouldn't be that bad.
